Steady Improvement Pays Off! Julian Lai, representing Irvine, CA, and the EXCEED THE LIMIT Run Club, set an impressive pace at the 2026 Surf City 10 5K. Starting with an 18:25 min/mile at mile 1, Julian significantly improved to a 14:16 min/mile by mile 2. This shows a remarkable ability to warm up and find a rhythm. The consistent improvement culminated in a speedy 8:14 min/mile for the third mile. His overall pace of 12:15 min/mile demonstrates excellent strategy and a strong finish over the 3.1-mile course. Julian's performance stood out among peers, securing 44th in the M 14 & Under division, underscoring his potential at just six years old. Placing 841st overall out of 2148 participants and 420th among men, there's a lot to celebrate. Julian's effort and endurance were evident throughout, and the improvement in his splits indicates that, with continued training, his pacing strategy can drive further achievement.
