Strong Start and Steady Finish Mario Merto from Riverside, CA, ran a well-paced 5K at the 2026 Surf City 10, finishing with an overall time of 36:07. Throughout the race, Mario demonstrated consistent improvement in pace, beginning with a 13:15 min/mile for the first mile and progressively increasing speed with a final mile pace of 10:17 min/mile. His overall average pace was 11:39 min/mile. Mario's progress through the ranks was impressive. Despite starting at 931st place in the first mile, he managed to climb significantly, finishing in 689th place out of 2148 participants. In his division, Male 40-44, Mario improved from 46th place to finish in 38th. His ability to pace himself strategically and improve his standing throughout the event suggests that with continued focus on pacing adjustments, future performances could yield even more incredible results.
