Consistent Splits Elevate Performance Zyeir Shabete Jr. delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Surf City 10 5K. Starting strong with an initial mile split of 5:10, Zyeir quickly established a steady pace. His subsequent splits were equally consistent: 5:29 and 5:24, showcasing remarkable endurance and pacing with an overall elapsed pace of 5:20 per mile. Despite initial high competition, Zyeir improved his overall standing significantly from 11th to 4th by the end of the race, showing strategic pacing and mental focus. Impressively, he secured 1st place in the M 20-24 division and finished 4th in both overall and gender standings against 2148 participants. As part of the Black Girls Run team, Zyeir's execution of steady splits can inspire future strategies.
