Date: July 25, 2026 Participant: Matthew Miller #5200 Race: 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon Event: Olympic Triathlon Weather: Hot, but otherwise a great day for a triathlon.

Strong Bike Leg Anchors a Steady Olympic-Distance Finish Matthew Miller completed the Olympic-distance course in 3:12:50, finishing 597th among male competitors and 39th in the competitive 19-24 age group. His swim leg was solid, exiting the water in a strong position within his division before a swift T1 transition kept him moving efficiently into the bike course. The bike leg was the highlight of Matthew's day covering the roughly 24.4-mile course at an average speed of just over 17 mph, a strong showing that moved him up through the field. The run, however, told a different story: after a solid opening mile near 10:10 pace, Matthew's pace steadily slipped in the back half, dropping into the 13-14 minute/mile range over the final miles. For his next race, targeting more consistent pacing across the run perhaps through negative-split training runs off the bike could help him hold onto the strong positioning he built with his cycling performance.
