Race Recap powered by Laurel Intelligence

Date: July 25, 2026 Participant: Sawyer Kondel #5166 Race: 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon Event: Olympic Triathlon Weather: Hot, but otherwise a great day for a triathlon.

A Hometown Effort That Faded Down the Stretch Racing in his hometown of Burley, Sawyer Kondel tackled the Olympic-distance Spudman with a strong start, exiting the Snake River in 22:44 before moving efficiently through a swift T1. His bike leg was the highlight of the day, averaging roughly 16 mph over the course, a pace that kept him competitive through the midway point of the race. Transitions were crisp on both ends, showing solid preparation heading into the run. The run told a different story, with mile splits climbing steadily from the 10-minute range into the 12-minute range by the final miles, a clear sign of fatigue setting in. Compared to his 2024 Spudman finish of 2:41:14, this year's 3:11:06 marks a notable step back, particularly in overall pacing durability. Building run endurance to hold pace deeper into the back half could be a valuable focus for Sawyer heading into future races on this course he knows so well.
