Strong Bike Leg Fuels Solid Olympic Debut Malia Shaw completed her first Olympic-distance triathlon at Spudman in 3:33:03, finishing 261st among 1987 female competitors. She opened with a 23:27 swim, taking advantage of the Snake River's current, before transitioning into a strong 1:38:09 bike leg. That split translates to roughly 14.9 mph, a steady effort across the ride's rolling terrain. Her run, covering the closing 10K, came in at 1:25:23. This performance builds on her 2023 Spudman Sprint Triathlon, where she finished 144th overall and 60th among women in 1:47:59. Stepping up to the Olympic distance clearly tested her endurance, particularly on the run, where pacing dipped in the later miles. Sharpening run fitness could help her close the gap between her bike and run performances in future Olympic-distance races.
