A Steady Swim Leads to a Grinding Finish Drew Thurman opened his race with a strong 28:58 swim, hitting the water efficiently before transitioning into a bike leg that covered roughly 24.4 miles in 1:29:33 an average of about 16.3 mph. That bike split moved him up into the 947th overall position, a solid improvement from his post-swim standing, showing strong pacing on two wheels. The run, however, told a tougher story. Covering just over six miles in 1:32:27, Drew's pace slowed considerably in the later miles, with splits drifting past 15:00/mile by mile 31. This marked his slowest Spudman finish to date at 3:42:49, compared to his personal best of 3:09:03 in 2024. Given his consistent bike strength, incorporating more run-specific endurance work could help him close the gap between his cycling and running performances in future races.
