Bike Speed Fuels a Strong Sprint Performance Heather Nielsen finished the 2026 Spudman Sprint Triathlon in 1:36:49, placing 47th overall out of 570, 12th among women, and 5th in the 30-39 age group. She exited the water in 17:04, moving through T1 in a brisk 4:20 to start the bike strong. The bike leg was the highlight of her race, covering 12.45 miles in 41:50an average of roughly 17.9 mphwhich lifted her into the top 35 overall by T2. A quick 2:28 transition kept her momentum into the run, where she covered the course in 31:09. Early run splits were solid, but pacing slowed in the closing miles (10:03 and 10:24 min/mile), dropping her a few spots before the finish. Sharpening the final stretch of the run could help her hold position gained on the bike in future races.
