Strong Bike Leg Sets the Pace Despite a Late Run Fade Stanton Merrill completed the Olympic distance in 3:28:38, highlighted by a bike split of 1:24:47 that averaged roughly 17.3 mph a strong showing that moved him into the top half of his division by T2, climbing to 22nd among 45-49 Solo Males mid-bike. His swim (28:08) and transitions (3:44 T1, 5:23 T2) were efficient and consistent with the overall field. The run proved more challenging, with his pace settling into the 13:00-14:00 min/mile range over the final miles, finishing the 10K in 1:26:38. This softened his final placement to 60th in his division after being as high as 22nd on the bike. Building run endurance off the bike could help him convert that strong cycling fitness into a faster overall finish next time.
