Strong Bike Power Offsets a Fading Run John opened with a steady 0.86mile swim before transitioning into a bike leg that showed real strength, averaging roughly 15.2 mph over the 24mile course. His midride splits were especially sharp, including a stretch that dipped to a 3:26/mile pace equivalent, showing solid power output through the rolling terrain. The run told a different story. John started strong with a 12:24 pace over the first mile, but the pace steadily slippedsettling into the 14:2014:42/mile range over the closing miles. That fade contributed to an overall finish of 3:41:00, a notable step back from his 3:02:51 result at the same race last year. For his next Spudman, maintaining that early-run intensity through the final miles could help him recapture last years pace and close the gap between his bike and run performances.
