Fast Out of the Water, Fading Late Johny Fredrick's day started with a standout swim, exiting the Snake River in 14:38 good for 2nd overall and the top spot in his age group. A lengthy T1 (6:52) cost him some of that momentum, dropping him into the 50s before he even started pedaling. On the bike, he settled into a strong rhythm, averaging roughly 20.5 mph over the 24+ mile course and holding steady positions in the top 30-60 range for most of the ride. The run told a different story. Fredrick opened strong with a 9:26 first mile, but the pace steadily slipped into the 11:40s by the second mile before recovering slightly late. He finished in 2:40:35, placing 178th overall, 152nd among men, and 12th in the competitive 25-29 age group. Building run durability to match his excellent swim and bike splits could be a strong focus for future Olympic-distance races.
