Steady Bike Power Fuels a Strong Olympic-Distance Finish Kirk completed the Olympic distance in 3:24:18, finishing 946th overall out of 1,987 and 72nd in the competitive 40-44 age group. His swim came in at 30:34, transitioning into a bike leg that showed real strength averaging roughly 16.5 mph over the course, with a notably fast middle stretch near 17.6 mph. That bike effort moved him up significantly in the standings, climbing from 1,335th after the swim to 720th by the bike's midpoint. The run proved to be a story of a strong finish: after settling into a pace near 11:29/mile early on, Kirk found another gear over the final mile, closing with a 9:59/mile pace to bring it home. Consistent gains across the bike and a solid final kick on the run were the highlights of the day.
