Steady Gains Fuel a Career-Best Olympic Finish Tanner Wahlen capped his third consecutive Spudman appearance with his fastest time yet, crossing the line in 2:18:30 a solid improvement over his 2:24:06 (2024) and 2:22:26 (2025) finishes. That progression paid off with a jump to 28th overall and 27th among men, up from 153rd and 93rd in prior years, along with an 8th-place finish in the competitive Elite Men division. The bike leg was the standout of the day: Tanner covered the 24.39-mile course at roughly 21.5 mph, surging from 235th place out of the water to 49th by T2 a gain of nearly 200 positions. He backed that up with a strong run, holding a pace in the low-7:00s per mile through the final miles. The swim, at 20:46, was comparatively the area where he lost the most ground early, suggesting it could be a focus for future gains alongside an already-strong bike-run combination.
