Strong Swim Leads to Steady, If Slower, Olympic Finish Ethan Hatch opened his 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon with an efficient swim, exiting the water in the top 12% of the field and holding a top-200 overall position through the early bike miles. His bike leg averaged approximately 15.8 mph, a steady pace that maintained his position through the midpoint of the race before a lengthier T2 transition slowed his momentum heading into the run. The run leg proved to be the most challenging segment, with his per-mile pace climbing from an 11:23 opening mile to over 13:00 by the race's final miles a fade worth addressing in future training blocks, particularly pacing strategy for the back half of the run. Compared to his 2024 Spudman finish of 3:14:59, this year's 3:20:50 represents a step back, though the early swim and bike execution show real strength to build from. Finishing 10th in the U40 Clydesdale division, Ethan has a clear runway to sharpen his run-off-the-bike performance for future races.
