Strong Bike Leg Anchors a Hard-Earned Olympic Finish Brian Tanner turned in a strong all-around performance at the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon, highlighted by a bike leg averaging roughly 18.7 mph a segment where he climbed into the top 200 overall and top 15 in his division. That bike strength carried into a smooth T2 transition, setting up a run where he held position through the middle miles before finishing 30th in the Men's 50-54 division. Compared to his 2022 Spudman result, Tanner's overall time was slower, but he was also racing two age brackets up, now competing in the 50-54 group instead of 45-59. The swim and early bike miles showed solid pacing, and the back half of the run offers a clear opportunity to focus training tightening up late-race endurance could help him close the gap between his strong bike output and overall finishing time in future races.
