Bike Strength Offsets a Tough Run Closer Eric Bauman turned in a strong bike leg at the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon, climbing from 283rd overall after the first bike split to as high as 234th overall by the later stages of the ride a pace exceeding 19 mph. That surge moved him into 10th in his 50-54 division at one point, a clear high point of his day. The swim was steady, exiting the water in 22nd within his age group. The run proved more difficult, with pace slowing into the mid-13:00s per mile in the later miles, dropping him from 8th to 37th in his division by the finish. T1 and T2 also ran a bit long relative to his overall effort. Compared to his 2025 Spudman finish of 2:55:48, this year's 3:12:44 was slower, suggesting the run and transitions are areas to sharpen going forward.
