Strong Bike Power Undercut by a Late-Race Run Fade Racing the Olympic distance, this Burley local finished in 3:03:22, placing 576th overall out of 1,987 finishers (472nd among men, 79th in the 35-39 age group). The bike leg was the highlight of the day, covering roughly 24.4 miles in 1:22:06 for an average speed near 17.8 mph a strong showing that moved him into the top 60 overall at one point on course. Transitions were efficient too, with a snappy 3:25 T1 and a lightning-fast 1:53 T2. The run, however, told a different story. After a solid opening mile near 9:42, the pace steadily slipped climbing past 11:50, then 13:45, and eventually over 14:00 per mile in the closing stretch. This softened what had been a promising position on the bike. Compared to last years 2:42:16 Spudman finish, this result came in about 21 minutes slower, suggesting run endurance and late-race pacing are the clearest areas to sharpen before the next race.
