Date: July 25, 2026 Participant: Matthew Gibson #6090 Race: 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon Event: Olympic Triathlon Weather: Hot, but otherwise a great day for a triathlon.

Balanced Splits Highlight a Well-Rounded Olympic Effort Matthew Gibson delivered a steady, well-paced performance at the Olympic distance in Spudman. He came out of the Snake River in a solid 28:36, then settled into a bike leg that averaged nearly 13 mph across the rolling 24-mile course. His strongest cycling came mid-ride, where he consistently held sub-5:00/mile splits, showing good power and control before easing slightly in the closing miles. Off the bike, Gibson turned in a run averaging just over 11:00 per mile for the 10K, closing with a strong final surge in the last quarter-mile. Both transitions ran a touch long T1 at 3:34 and T2 at 3:50 combining for over seven minutes off the clock. Tightening these could be an easy way to trim time in future races without needing to push harder on the swim, bike, or run itself.
