Consistent Pacing Highlights a Season-Long Athlete Shawn Cox completed his third Olympic-distance Spudman appearance, finishing in 3:11:19 and placing 41st in the competitive 45-49 age group. His bike leg stood out, covering just under 19 miles at an average of roughly 17.8 mph, a strong showing that helped him move up through the field after the swim. Transitions were efficient, and his run pace held steady in the low 11-minute range over the closing miles, showing solid endurance management late in the race. Compared to his 2022 (2:48:24) and 2023 (2:58:25) results at the same event, this year's time reflects a gradual shift, worth examining alongside training volume or course conditions. With a consistently strong bike leg as a foundation, sharpening swim and run efficiency could help Shawn close the gap toward his earlier personal bests in future Spudman outings.
