Powerful Bike Leg Fuels a Mid-Pack Olympic Finish Matt Luikart turned in a well-rounded Olympic-distance performance, highlighted by a strong bike leg where he averaged roughly 17.9 mph over the course. That effort propelled him from 909th place overall after the swim to as high as 216th by late bike, showing real strength and consistency on two wheels, particularly through the middle miles where he was passing significant numbers of competitors. The run leg proved tougher, as Matt's position gradually slipped from 316th to 512th overall by the finish, suggesting some fatigue accumulated after the bike's strong pace. His swim, while solid, was the area most impacted by early race positioning. Finishing in 3:01:01, 422nd among men, Matt's race reflects a great foundation of bike fitness building similar strength and pacing on the run could yield an even stronger overall result next time.
