Bike Strength Fuels a Steady Olympic Debut Landon Costley completed his Olympic-distance triathlon in 3:41:38, finishing 1163rd overall out of 1987 athletes and 860th among men. The standout of the day was clearly the bike leg, where he averaged roughly 14.6 mph across the rolling course a segment that saw him climb from the 1,300s in the swim standings into the mid-800s by the bikes midpoint, showing real strength and control on two wheels. The swim proved to be his toughest leg relative to the field, dropping him back early before his bike surge clawed positions back. On the run, he opened strong with a sub-13-minute first mile split, but pace gradually eased over the final miles, slipping from the 800s back toward his overall finishing rank. Sharpening late-run endurance could help him hold onto the gains made on the bike and convert them into an even stronger overall finish next time.
