A Strong Bike Leg Couldn't Offset a Fading Finish Sam Geddes turned in a solid ride at this year's Spudman Olympic Triathlon, averaging roughly 20.3 mph over the bike leg and moving into the top 50 of his gender field by T2. The swim was efficient and unremarkable, and T1/T2 transitions were both quick, showing good race-day execution. However, the run told a different story early miles held near a 9:54 pace before steadily slipping past 12:00 per mile in the closing stretch, dropping him from 44th overall off the bike to 192nd by the finish. Compared to his last two Spudman appearances a 2:22:42 in 2024 and a breakout 2:18:24 (57th overall, 4th in division) in 2025 this year's 2:41:41 marks a notable step back, driven almost entirely by the run fade. Given the strength of his cycling, targeting run endurance and pacing consistency in training could help him reclaim that 2025 form.
