Strong Bike Legs Power a Determined Olympic Finish Ryan Harward turned in a well-rounded Olympic-distance performance at Spudman, highlighted by a bike leg where he averaged roughly 17.3 mph over the course. He found his best rhythm midway through the ride, covering one 5.6-mile stretch in just 16:51 a burst that briefly moved him into the top 175 overall and was clearly the highlight of his day. The swim and both transitions were steady, with T1 taking 5:08 and T2 a much quicker 2:38, showing good improvement in transition efficiency once he got moving on the bike. The run proved to be the tougher half of the day, with pacing settling in the 11:3013:40/mile range over the final miles as fatigue set in. Compared to his 2023 Spudman finish, this year's overall time was about 29 minutes slower, with the run split accounting for much of that gap. Ryan finished 95th in his 35-39 age group. Building more durability into the run off the bike could help him close that gap in future races.
