Strong Bike Split Powers Solid Olympic Finish Mason Merrill turned in a well-rounded performance at the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon, finishing in 2:30:42 and placing 9th in the competitive 19-24 Male division. After a steady swim, Mason found his rhythm on the bike, averaging roughly 21.6 mph over the course and climbing from 306th to 57th overall by the mid-bike checkpoint a clear highlight of the race. This strong cycling leg set him up well for the run, where he maintained a consistent pace in the 8:309:00 min/mile range across the 10K. Mason's transitions were efficient, and his ability to move up through the field during the bike leg speaks to solid pacing and power output. For future races, focusing on maintaining that same bike intensity into the run could help him close even more positions late in the race, as his run splits show a slight fade in the final miles. Overall, a strong Olympic-distance performance with clear strengths to build on.
