Bike Speed Surges While Run Fades Late Cari Hulet completed the Olympic-distance course in 3:14:42, placing 778th overall and 18th in the women's 40-44 division. Her bike leg was a highlight, averaging roughly 16.2 mph overall, with a standout mid-ride stretch where her pace quickened to about 18.6 mph (3:14 min/mile), pushing her into the top 250 riders at that point in the race. The run told a different story. Cari opened strong, holding a 10:49 pace through the first mile off the bike, but tempo steadily slipped as fatigue set indropping to an 11:26, then 12:12, and eventually a 14:43 mile before a final push to the finish. Building run durability in the closing miles, perhaps through race-simulation bricks, could help her carry more of that early run speed to the line in future Olympic-distance events.
