Solid Bike Power Undercut by a Fading Run John opened with a 25:58 swim, taking advantage of the Snake River's downstream current, then moved through T1 in 7:57. His bike leg was the highlight of the day a 1:24:25 split that averaged roughly 17.3 mph, with several early miles ridden well under 4:00/mile pace, showing strong, consistent power through the middle portion of the course. T2 came in at 7:45, and the run started promisingly with a 12:10 opening mile. From there, pace steadily slipped, dropping into the 14:0015:00/mile range over the closing miles and contributing to a final time of 3:32:35 about 25 minutes slower than his 3:07:50 finish at this same race last year. Building late-race run durability could help him recapture that faster overall time.
