A Steady Finish Marked by Uneven Pacing Dan Ward completed the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon in 2:58:33, finishing 462nd overall out of 1,987 and 41st in the Elite Men division. His bike leg showed real strength in stretches two mid-course segments clocked in near 17.5 mph, well above his overall bike average of roughly 16.1 mph, hinting at strong power when conditions or terrain aligned. The swim, by contrast, settled him near the back of the field positionally, an area worth revisiting in training. Compared to his previous three Spudman finishes (2:322:37 range from 2022-2024), this result came in noticeably slower, with his overall placement dropping as well. The run split told a similar story of fading pace starting near 8:32 per mile before drifting past 10:00 per mile by the final miles. Tightening the swim and building late-run durability could help Dan close the gap toward his faster Spudman years.
