Fast Start Fuels a Solid Finish, But Late Miles Tell the Story Mason Wilkins turned in a strong all-around effort at the 2026 Spudman Sprint Triathlon, finishing 17th overall out of 570 and 3rd in the men's 20-29 division. His swim was a highlight, covering the course in 13:11 to rank 6th overall and 4th among men. T1 was crisp at 2:45, and the bike leg was equally impressiveaveraging roughly 17.1 mph over 12.45 miles in 43:41, good for 3rd overall through the bike split. A quick 55-second T2 kept his transitions efficient throughout the day. Compared to his 2025 Spudman result, where he finished 7th overall in 1:19:12 and won his division, this year's 1:29:48 finish and 3rd-place division result reflect a step back, particularly on the run. After holding a top-5 position exiting the bike, his run pace faded in the back half, dropping him to 17th by the finish. Sharpening late-run endurance could help him reclaim the front-of-field positioning his swim and bike consistently earn him.
