Strong Swim Start Fades Into a Steady Finish Lance turned in a swim split that pushed him into the top half of his age group, moving through the water in just over 23 minutes and climbing to 172nd overall by the swim exit. That momentum carried into a quick transition, and his bike leg held a steady pace of roughly 11.8 mph over the course, keeping him competitive through the halfway point of the race. The back half told a different story, as the run leg settled into a pace near 15:12 per mile, which cost him ground relative to his early positioning dropping him to 188th in his gender division by the finish. Closing in 2:25:39, Lance finished 16th in the men's 50-59 division. Building run fitness to match his swim strength could be a good focus for future training blocks, aiming to hold position through the finish line.
