Powerful Bike Leg Propels Steady Olympic Performance Ross Matsuura completed the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon in 2:43:03, finishing 208th overall and 23rd in the Elite Men division out of 1,987 participants. His swim came in at 25:17, followed by a strong bike leg of 1:17:29 averaging roughly 18.9 mph and a 56:07 run to close things out. The bike was clearly Ross's strongest segment, highlighted by a 5.6-mile stretch covered in 16:13 (2:53/mile pace), during which he surged from 216th to 77th place overall. This power carried into the run, though his pace drifted slightly from 9:12 to 9:17 per mile through the middle miles. He rallied with a strong closing kick, dropping to an 8:26 pace at mile 31 and finishing with a final quarter-mile split of just 21 seconds. Building more consistent run pacing in the middle miles could help him fully capitalize on the strong bike fitness he displayed here.
