Bike Power Drives a Runner-Up Age-Group Finish Gary Bowen delivered a well-rounded performance at the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon, finishing 318th overall among 1,987 athletes and taking 2nd place in the competitive 65-69 age division. The bike leg was his standout segment averaging roughly 18.3 mph over the course and it was strong enough to hold the outright division lead from T1 all the way through the finish of the ride. A 19:54 swim put him 3rd in his age group early on, and he maintained the division lead through the bike. However, a 1:06:55 run allowed a rival to close the gap, edging him into 2nd by the finish line. Compared to his 2022 (2:24:52) and 2023 (2:32:49) Spudman results, this year's time reflects the step up into a new age bracket, but the bike split shows his cycling strength remains a clear asset heading into future races.
