Bike Speed Powers Another Strong Age-Group Finish Alan Hunter, 74, turned in another solid Spudman performance, finishing 2nd in the 70+ Sprint division and 156th overall out of 570 athletes. His swim was sharp, putting him near the front of his division early, but the bike leg was the standout: averaging roughly 18.1 mph over the 12.4-mile course, a pace that outpaced many younger competitors and reflects excellent strength on two wheels. Looking at his Spudman history, times have crept up gradually from a strong 1:36:18 in 2023 to 1:50:17 this year a natural shift as he continues racing competitively in the tough 70+ bracket. The run, averaging close to 15 minutes per mile, stands out as the area with the most room to gain time back next season, while his cycling remains a clear foundation of strength to build around.
