Strong Bike Split Fuels a Solid Olympic-Distance Finish John Marett improved on his 2024 Spudman performance, finishing in 2:19:25 over two minutes faster than his previous outing and moving from 137th to 33rd overall out of nearly 2,000 finishers. His swim was efficient, but the bike leg was the standout of the day: John averaged roughly 22.7 mph over the bike course, a segment strong enough to put him inside the top 15 riders in his gender and division at multiple checkpoints. The run proved to be the area where time slipped away relative to his bike momentum, with pace gradually easing from an 8:16/mile opening mile to an 8:39/mile closer. Given his ability to bike at a high level, targeting a more even run pacing strategy could help him hold onto more of those bike-earned positions in future races. Overall, a strong, well-rounded performance with real growth from his last Spudman.
