Solid Swim Effort Slowed by Transition and Run Pace Mary opened her day with a strong 23:25 swim, holding position inside the top 200 in her division exiting the water. However, a lengthy 10:54 first transition erased much of that early momentum, dropping her significantly in the standings before she even mounted the bike. The bike leg was a bright spot, averaging roughly 11.1 mph over the course, and she made up valuable ground mid-ride. Unfortunately, the run proved to be the toughest segment, settling into a pace well above 16 minutes per mile for most of the 3.1-mile stretch. Compared to her 2024 Spudman finish of 2:07:25, this year's 2:36:24 shows a notable step back, largely driven by the T1 delay and a slower run split. Sharpening transition efficiency and building run endurance could help close that gap in future races.
