Bike Strength Builds Early Lead Before Late Run Fade Kristy Hatch returned to Spudmans Olympic distance and finished in 3:06:31, placing 4th in the 55-59 Solo Female division and 117th among women overall. Compared to her 2023 Spudman finish of 2:48:45, this was a slower day, but she showed real strength in different areas of the race this time around. Her swim put her 2nd in her division early, and she then seized the overall division lead on the bike, holding 1st place through nearly every bike checkpoint at an average speed of roughly 17.6 mph an especially strong showing. That lead carried through T2, but the run proved costly: her pace steadily slipped from an 11:30 opening mile to over 14:00 by the final miles, dropping her to 4th by the finish. Building more durable run fitness to protect that hard-earned bike lead should be the focus going forward.
