Strong Bike Surge Powers a Solid Olympic-Distance Finish Paul Krogue turned in a well-rounded Olympic triathlon performance in Great Falls colors, finishing in 2:52:53 and placing 22nd in the competitive 45-49 age group. After a steady swim, Krogue found his rhythm on the bike, averaging roughly 19 mph over the course. His mid-ride surge was especially notable a 5.6-mile stretch covered at nearly 21 mph vacaulted him from 483rd to 108th overall, a clear sign of strong bike fitness and pacing instincts. The run presented a bit more of a mixed picture. Krogue opened with a brisk 8:37 opening mile before settling into the high-9:00s to low-10:00 per mile range as fatigue set in, finishing the run in exactly 1:00:01. Given the strength shown on the bike, dialing in more consistent run pacing in the closing miles could help him convert that cycling power into an even stronger overall result next time out.
