Major Year-Over-Year Breakthrough Fueled by a Standout Bike Leg Parker Goudie turned in a huge improvement at this year's Olympic distance race, slashing over 51 minutes off his previous Spudman time and climbing from 938th to 353rd in his gender field. The swim was steady, but the bike leg was the highlight Parker averaged roughly 18.9 mph, including a stretch where he clocked closer to 20 mph and moved up to 13th in his division, a clear sign of strong cycling fitness. The run started promising, with Parker holding 9th in his division through the first mile and a half at a solid clip. However, the pace faded significantly over the back half, dropping him to 24th in his age group by the finish. Sharpening run endurance late in the race could help him convert his strong bike gains into an even better overall result next time.
