Consistent Bike Power Highlights a Balanced Olympic Effort Nathan Welch completed the Olympic-distance race in 3:18:29, placing 850th overall out of 1,987 finishers and 53rd in the competitive men's 45-49 division. His swim and transitions were efficient, with a snappy T1 of under five minutes helping him move quickly into the bike leg. The bike leg was a clear strength, averaging roughly 15.8 mph overall, and included an especially strong 16-plus mile stretch where his pace approached 17.5 mph a solid, sustained effort on two wheels. The run told a slightly different story: early miles were steady in the 11:45 per mile range, but pace slowed into the 13-minute range over the final few miles. Building late-race run endurance could help him carry his strong bike momentum through to the finish line in future Olympic-distance events.
