Young Standout Turns in a Podium-Worthy Olympic Debut Pierce Welch delivered a strong performance at the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon, finishing 3rd in the competitive 1-19 Solo Male division and 158th overall out of 1,987 finishers. His swim was a highlight, clocking 18:39 to sit 4th in his division exiting the water and 63rd overall a great foundation for the race. On the bike, Pierce averaged roughly 17.8 mph, holding a steady pace across the 24+ mile course and maintaining his position among the top competitors in his age group. The run showed solid consistency, with mile splits hovering in the 8:008:22 range before closing with a strong final surge. One area worth tightening up is T1, where his transition time slipped him from 4th to 5th in his division momentarily shaving even a few seconds there could help preserve position early in future races. Overall, a well-rounded, podium-level performance for a 15-year-old competing in the Olympic distance.
