A Sharp Swim and Strong Bike Set Up an Olympic-Distance Finish Ephraim Apedaile completed the Olympic-distance race at the 2026 Spudman in 3:12:48, placing 744th of 1,987 finishers and 55th in Elite Men. The 21-year-old from Hamilton, Montana, made his biggest gains early: a 21:09 swim moved him from 883rd at the start to 284th, and he climbed as high as 47th overall by mile 4.2 of the bike. He averaged roughly 18 mph on the bike, holding splits near 3:10 per mile through the later sections. The run was where the day got tougher, with pace moving from 10:57 in the opening mile to 12:58 and then 15:43 over the final stretch, before a 4:52 closing push to the line. Building run durability off the bike would pay dividends. Trimming the 3:23 T1 and 2:03 T2 also offers a quick, low-cost gain for the next start line.
