Fast Start in the Water Sets the Tone, Late Miles Tell a Different Story Taylor Mallard opened his Spudman sprint with a strong swim, clocking 17:03 to sit 77th overall and 5th in his 40-49 age group exiting the water an early signal of solid conditioning. He carried that momentum into the bike leg, averaging just under 15 mph over the course, which kept him inside the top 90 overall through the transition back to T2. The run proved to be the tougher third of the day, with his pace easing as the miles progressed and his overall position slipping to 107th by the finish, dropping to 13th in his division. The gap between his swim strength and run fade suggests bike-to-run transition efficiency and closing speed are the clearest areas to sharpen for his next race.
