Young Athlete Cracks Top Dozen in Stacked Age Group Carson Burbidge, just 14 years old, turned in an impressive Olympic-distance performance at Spudman, finishing in 2:56:08 and placing 11th in the competitive 1-19 Solo Male division. His bike leg was a standout, averaging nearly 16.9 mph over the course, highlighted by a blistering split where he clocked a 4:03/mile pace good enough for 4th in his division at that point in the race. His swim came in at 20:52, a solid effort on the current-assisted Snake River course. T1 took 4:42, slightly longer than some competitors. On the run, Carson started strong with a 9:49 pace over the first mile before settling into the 10:15-10:45 range for the remainder of the 10K. Tightening up that back-half run pace could be a good focus for future training blocks as he continues to build his triathlon experience.
