Race Recap powered by Laurel Intelligence

Date: July 25, 2026 Participant: Matt Taylor #4286 Race: 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon Event: Olympic Triathlon Weather: Hot, but otherwise a great day for a triathlon.

Powerful Bike Split Fuels Solid Olympic Finish Despite Slow Transition Matt delivered a strong overall performance, highlighted by a bike leg averaging roughly 18 mph, including a standout 5.6-mile stretch covered near 19 mph good for the 210th-fastest split of the day. That power on the bike helped balance out a rougher patch in transition, where T1 took 8:45, dropping him from 941st to 1,133rd overall and costing valuable positions early on. His run settled into a steady rhythm around 12:20 per mile, rounding out a well-executed Olympic-distance effort. Compared to his 2024 Spudman finish of 2:47:53, this year's 3:16:02 marks a step back in overall time, with the transition zones playing a clear role in the gap. Tightening up T1 in particular could yield meaningful time gains without any added fitness work a promising focus area heading into his next race.
