Steady Effort Anchored by a Strong Bike and a Closing Kick Bruce Johnson turned in a solid sprint-distance performance at the 2026 Spudman, finishing 6th in the competitive 60-69 age group and 97th among 570 total finishers. His bike leg was a highlight, averaging roughly 15.5 mph over the 12.45-mile course, a pace that moved him up through the field from a 199th overall position after the swim to 105th by the end of the bike segment. His swim (22:17) and T1 (5:23) were efficient, setting up that bike momentum early. Compared to his 2024 Spudman finish of 1:43:22, this year's 1:50:44 was a bit slower overall, with the run split showing room to find more consistent pacingstarting at an 11:34 mile before finishing strong with a final sub-5:00 pace kick to the line. That closing speed suggests untapped potential for a faster run split if he can carry that intensity from the start next time out.
