Strong Bike Power, Fading Legs on the Run Derek opened his day with a 29:48 swim before a 9:44 transition into the bike leg, where he found his best form of the race. Averaging roughly 14.5 mph, his bike splits ranged from a strong 15.5 mph stretch to a slower 12.6 mph section, suggesting some pacing variability worth smoothing out on similar terrain. After a 6:00 T2, Derek's run told a story of early strength fading late starting near a 12:28/mile pace before dropping to 14:20/mile in the closing miles, finishing the run in 1:24:19. His overall time of 3:50:23 was noticeably slower than his 2:55:15 finish at the 2024 Spudman Olympic, pointing to an opportunity to rebuild endurance and run consistency for his next start at this race.
