Bret Wardle Powers to a Runner-Up Age Group Finish with a Blistering Bike Leg Bret Wardle turned in a strong all-around performance, finishing 15th overall out of 570 and 2nd in the Men's 40-49 Sprint division. His bike leg was the standout of the dayaveraging nearly 18.9 mph and briefly holding the top spot in his age group during the middle miles of the ride. He carried that momentum into a steady run, settling into a rhythm in the 7:57-8:10/mile range over the closing miles to seal his podium finish. This result builds on his history at this race, where he also claimed 2nd in his age division back in 2024, though in the 30-39 category at a faster elapsed time of 1:25:03. The slightly longer finish this year reflects the natural shift into a new, more competitive age bracket, and his ability to still land on the podium speaks to strong consistency. Sharpening transition times, particularly T1, could shave a few more seconds off future results.
