Steady Effort Across Three Disciplines Anchored by a Standout Mid-Race Surge Derek completed the Olympic-distance course in 4:10:52, opening with a 32:06 swim and moving efficiently through a 9:47 T1. His bike leg covered roughly 24.4 miles in 1:40:33, averaging close to 14.6 mph, before a quick 5:07 transition into the run. The run was where Derek showed real range. Early miles settled into a manageable rhythm, but during the R3 segment he surged to 13th overall, 9th among men, and 3rd in his division for that stretch a clear sign of untapped speed. Closing in with a 1:43:20 run split, he finished 94th in the competitive 40-44 age group. With bike and run pacing both showing pockets of strength, dialing in more consistent pacing across the full run could unlock an even stronger overall finish next time.
