Strong Swim Sets the Tone, but Pace Fades Late John opened his day with a standout swim, clocking 19:43 to place 5th in his 60-64 age group and 114th among all menan excellent start that set him up well. He carried solid momentum onto the bike, averaging roughly 15.4 mph over the course, with transitions handled efficiently in T1 (6:40) and T2 (4:01). Compared to his last four Spudman finishes, this race marked a step back in overall time, coming in slower than his 20222025 results. The back half of the bike and the run leg saw more fluctuation in pace than in previous years, suggesting an opportunity to focus on sustaining power output later in the bike and building more consistent run splits. With the swim strength clearly there, tightening up endurance in the final stages could help John return closer to his previous podium-contending pace in this age division.
