A Strong Bike Surge Highlights a Promising Endurance Debut At just 13 years old, Van tackled the Olympic distance with a swim that came in at over 25 minutes per mile pace, a solid start in the water. He carried that momentum onto the bike, where his effort truly stood out during one stretch spanning nearly 8 miles, he clocked splits around 3:31/mile pace, propelling him to 158th overall and 4th in his division at that point in the race. His overall bike split averaged out to about 16.5 mph, a strong showing for the two-wheeled leg. The run proved tougher, with pacing settling into the 11:4013:20 per mile range as fatigue set in over the final 6.2 miles. Van crossed the finish line in 3:15:59, capping off a race defined by a genuinely impressive bike surge. Building some run endurance could help him close out future races with the same strength he showed on the bike.
