Race Recap powered by Laurel Intelligence

Date: July 25, 2026 Participant: Randy Pettyjohn #6214 Race: 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon Event: Olympic Triathlon Weather: Hot, but otherwise a great day for a triathlon.

Solid Swim and Bike Set the Stage, but the Run Tells a Tougher Story Randy Pettyjohn turned in a strong opening two legs at the Olympic-distance Spudman, exiting the water in a swim split that ranked well ahead of his eventual overall finish, showing real comfort in the water. He carried that momentum onto the bike, averaging right around 15 mph over the nearly 24-mile course a steady, well-paced ride that moved him into solid positioning heading into the second transition. The run proved to be the most challenging segment of the day. After a strong first mile, his pace steadily slipped from the mid-15s into the high-teens and eventually low-20s per mile over the closing miles, suggesting fatigue took hold in the back half. For future races, building more run-specific endurance off the bike could help him hold his early pace longer and finish with more consistency across all three disciplines.
